“Debt is Slavery” Chosen as Awards Finalist
SEATTLE, WA — Debt is Slavery: and 9 Other Things I Wish My Dad Had Taught Me About Money has been chosen as a finalist in the Business category of the 2008 National Indie Excellence Awards (NIEA).
Founded by publishing industry veteran Ellen Reid, the NIEA recognizes books from small and independent publishers and is judged by an independent panel of experts from all aspects of the publishing industry: editing, marketing, publicity and design.
“It’s an honor the NIEA has picked Debt is Slavery as one of the top business books produced by independent publishers,” remarks Michael Mihalik, author of Debt is Slavery. “A lot of effort was put into the production of this book by a strong team of industry professionals. Debt is Slavery wouldn’t have become a reality without the excellent book cover and interior design by Peri Poloni-Gabriel and Monica Thomas of Knockout Design, the insightful editing of Heidi Thomas from SunCatcher Publications, and the quality printing of Color House Graphics.”
Debt is Slavery uses Mihalik’s personal experience struggling with debt to illustrate the ten ideas and techniques he created and used to gain control of his finances, pay off his debt, and create financial security. The book takes a unique approach to personal finance by focusing on changing the way people think about money.
“I accumulated a large amount of debt using credit cards and other loans to finance a lifestyle I couldn’t afford,” says Mihalik. “I tried to budget but it didn’t help. Then I discovered I couldn’t change the way I handled my finances until I changed the way I thought about money. I came up with ten rules that literally transformed my life. With consumer debt skyrocketing and the financial burden of soaring food and gasoline prices, there’s an urgent need for people to reclaim control of their finances.”
